Estate Planning Video: “What Is a Will and Why Do I Need One in Michigan?”

A will is perhaps the most fundamental of all estate planning documents. But what does it actually accomplish and do you need to have one in Michigan?

At its most basic, a will is a probate directive in which you identify who will be your personal representative, name guardians or conservators for any minor children, and set forth who gets your “stuff.” If you don’t prepare a will, your assets will pass according to Michigan’s laws of intestate succession, which may or may not line up with your wishes.

In this video from her Estate Planning Series, Bobbi Hines explains the importance of having a will, how a will impacts probate, and what happens if you pass away without one.
